Sprint Won’t Replace My Phone

As quick as I wrote about Sprint replacing my broken phone easily they’ve gone and taken the option away. Or so I’ve been told in a recent interaction with Sprint.

As you may have read, Sprint allowed me to replace an obviously defective phone. The phone in question was a Moto Q and the screen suddenly went blank on me. I took it in, and $50 later, I received a new phone. I didn’t have to have the insurance which sucks because you need to send the phone to a different location and receive it by mail. Instead, Sprint replaced it with a phone they had in-house.

Well, my phone broke again, this time due to my own causes, so obviously I was going to pay for the replacement, but then I asked about this new replacement service. Just for fun. And to my surprise, less than a year later, they’ve done away with the service. No more replacing of phones for $50.

It must be because this would allow Sprint to have too much customer service. Something that they are definitely not known for. Obviously it must be because they were losing money from it. Right? Losing money or not on the short term by replacing phones is one thing, but what about the long term effects? What about all those customers just looking for a reason to go to AT&T?

Just another thing that you can rant about as a Sprint customer.

    1. I was with AT&T for years while my family was on the Sprint network so I decided, after years of customer service nightmares, to jump ship. I signed up with Sprint over a year ago and I have been really impressed with the service, particularly with their calling network.

Sprint advertises the only 4G network and I have to say that with the right Smart Phone, the speed and graphics are really amazing. Their $69 everything unlimited plan saves me from my overage fees as well as nearly $40 a month more I had to pay to keep an IPhone with AT&T.

Their phone promotions are great and the general selection is better than I have encounted – I really love the abduance of Smart Phones at reasonable prices. I haven’t called customer care yet so I can’t rate, but my mom has called several times and said it was quick and helpful.

The best thing is honestly their calling network – I have great reception anywhere I go and in Miami that’s something. But I know that having this plan and a great phone, in this day and age, is lucky.

But there is an option being offered by Boost’s sister company, Virgin Mobile via Sprint, that has real potential to help a lot of people and should be getting more coverage.

Their “Assurance Wireless” program is being in offered in five states and exclusively to low income, qualifying families and its an amazing deal. Qualifers can get both a phone and 200 minutes, with no fees or contract, for free with the potential to expand their program at. 10 a minute. While the program is new, I can only hope it will expand to more states and people who could also use a plan like this.

I might not be low-income, but the savings would totally help me. While free is a bit much to ask of already loyal customers, maybe Sprint and its parents companies could offer something like this for $10 for everyone – new and old customers alike. Times are tough and having a cell phone is a must so click here for Sprint president’s email address: http://assurancewireless.webs.com and let him know that everyone could use these savings.
